U.S. spot crypto funds saw a sharp reversal in the week ending Friday, October 9: bitcoin, ether and Solana ETFs together lost about $1.25 billion in net flows, according to The Block’s analysis of SoSoValue data. For people holding these funds in brokerage or retirement accounts, the withdrawals are a sign of weaker demand for those products that week, not a guaranteed forecast of the next price move.

Ether ETFs accounted for $542.1 million of the outflows, their largest weekly withdrawal since January, and had recorded nine straight trading days of net outflows. Bitcoin ETFs lost $681.1 million, ending a three-week inflow streak. Solana funds lost $24.8 million, ending a 14-week run of weekly inflows. Friday brought $21.1 million back into bitcoin funds, but that did not offset the week’s withdrawals.

ETF flows track money entering and leaving the funds; they do not capture every crypto purchase or sale, and they do not prove why investors moved their money. The figures also do not mean that each fund holder sold shares. Crypto assets remain volatile, so a weekly flow report is context, not a reliable stand-alone measure of future returns.

Does a week of ETF outflows mean your crypto investment will lose value? No. It records net withdrawals from these funds during one week, not a certain price direction or the outcome for every investor.
