Shopify reported on Nov. 3 that quarterly revenue was $3.74 billion, just under the $3.75 billion analysts expected. CNBC said the company also missed estimates for subscription gross profit and for gross merchandise volume, the value of goods sold by merchants using the platform. The shares fell more than 5% by midday.
For the fourth quarter, Shopify said revenue should grow in the low thirties percent range from a year earlier, next to a 32.1% analyst estimate. It expects its free-cash-flow margin to match the fourth quarter of 2025. No merchant-fee change or shopper-price change was announced.
The miss matters to small retailers because Shopify is a checkout and payments layer, not because a national price index moved. A weaker merchandise-volume result describes activity on the platform versus forecasts. It does not show what any one store charges, and it does not change card interest rates.
Did Shopify’s quarter change a checkout price or a merchant fee? No fee or price change was announced. The verified results are a narrow revenue miss, softer-than-expected merchandise volume, and a holiday-quarter growth outlook still around the low 30% range.
