Newfoundland and Labrador drivers got a second regulated fuel cut in the same week. Just after midnight on Friday, Nov. 6, the Public Utilities Board lowered the maximum price of gasoline by as much as 10.1 cents a litre. CBC described it as another drop, separate from the midweek reduction already reported.
Diesel maximums fell by as much as 9.7 cents a litre on the island, and by 7.1 cents in western Labrador and Churchill Falls. Furnace oil was 7.43 cents a litre cheaper on the island and 6.06 cents cheaper in western Labrador and Churchill Falls. Propane heating moved the other way, up 1.9 cents a litre.
These figures are caps on what sellers may charge, not a receipt from every station. The board’s next adjustment is scheduled for Saturday, so Friday’s caps are not locked in for the weekend. The order did not set a U.S. pump price.
Could Friday’s cap cut lower a Newfoundland fuel bill? It can lower the regulated maximum for gasoline, diesel, and furnace oil. Gasoline’s cap fell by as much as 10.1 cents a litre. Propane heating rose 1.9 cents, and another adjustment is due Saturday.
