Nationwide checkout prices still show a split grocery basket, according to an NBC News tracker updated on October 13. Using NIQ point-of-sale data, NBC reported that average egg prices were down 31% since President Trump took office. Average orange-juice prices were up 23%, and ground beef prices were up 17%, from January 2025.

NIQ collects prices paid at grocery stores, drugstores, mass merchandisers, and selected dollar stores, warehouse clubs and military commissaries. That scanner average is not the Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI. September’s CPI, released a day later, said eggs were 20.6% lower than a year earlier. The periods and methods differ, so the 31% and 20.6% figures should not be treated as one measurement.

The fetched tracker text does not give a new city price or a demonstrated cause for the October 13 update. A national average also does not say what a particular store charged this week.

Does this mean every shopper’s ground beef rose 17% and every carton of eggs fell 31%? No. NBC reported nationwide average checkout changes, eggs since Trump took office and beef and orange juice from January 2025. Individual stores and the September CPI can differ.
