A food bank that has served Goole and nearby East Yorkshire villages for 16 years is preparing to close. BBC News reported on Friday, Nov. 6, that Mission Trinity Food Bank will keep operating until January and then stop. Founder David Sample said funds have fallen to the point where the project cannot continue, during what he called the current cost-of-living squeeze.
Sample said the charity has been buying food as often as three times a week because donations have dropped. The bank supports about 50 to 60 families and individuals a week. He has run it as a volunteer since being made redundant, and he said another operator would need new funding to keep it open. No replacement service was announced.
The report gives no new grocery-price index and no government payment that would offset the closure. It also shows no U.S. food-price change. The immediate economic effect is local: fewer donated groceries for the households that use this site after January.
Will Goole shoppers pay more because this food bank is closing? No grocery-price increase was announced. The Nov. 6 report says a 16-year local food bank, used by about 50 to 60 families and individuals a week, plans to stop after January.
