The FBI said Saturday, Nov. 1, 2026, that North Korean hackers it calls TraderTraitor stole more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance on Thursday. Fox Business described that statement as the first public confirmation by U.S. federal investigators.

This updates earlier reporting of Binance’s estimated $6.3 billion loss and its suspension of deposits and withdrawals, which did not include an FBI attribution. The new article does not say whether Binance.US accounts were affected.

Binance said Saturday it had replenished about 90% of the stolen assets, covering roughly $6 billion of the estimated $6.3 billion loss. It said Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and BNB were fully backed and that it was still buying less-liquid tokens. The exchange said it, not users, will absorb the loss. The FBI said the assets were being converted mainly into Ethereum and urged firms to block linked wallets.

President Trump said Saturday that the administration did not yet know whether North Korea was responsible. The report does not say customer withdrawals have resumed.

Does the FBI finding show a U.S. balance was taken or that withdrawals are open again? Neither result was established in this report. The new facts are the FBI attribution and Binance’s claim that users will not bear the loss. Restored access was not reported.
