eBay confirmed on Wednesday, October 21, that it will cut about 9% of its workforce, roughly 1,000 jobs, to focus spending on its fastest-growing priorities.

A spokesperson gave CNBC that figure. In a staff memo first reported by Reuters, chief executive Jamie Iannone said the strategy is working but that the company must choose where to invest. eBay had about 12,300 employees at the end of 2025. It already cut about 800 jobs, or 6%, in February. It said hiring will continue in priority areas. Earlier this year it completed a $1.4 billion purchase of clothing reseller Depop.

Nothing in the announcement changes seller fees or the price a buyer pays. Shares were up about 1% Wednesday morning. That is a stock move, not a checkout change.

Will the eBay layoffs lower what shoppers or sellers pay? No. The company announced job cuts and ongoing hiring in priority areas, not a fee or price cut.
