Canva is reorganizing, but it has not said how many affected employees will actually lose their jobs. Fox Business reported on Nov. 4 that the restructuring affects 1,271 employees, or 22% of the design-software company's workforce. Chief executive Melanie Perkins told staff on Tuesday that growth slowed for the first time in a decade. The overhaul includes layoffs, changed duties, relocation requests, and more in-person work. From January, most hybrid employees are expected in an office two to three days a week. For people who leave, Canva said severance includes at least six months of salary and, where coverage already exists, 12 months of health care. It also described $10,000 grants for some departing employees who start a business or community project. No subscription-price change was announced. More detail is expected at a Nov. 10 meeting.
Does the 22% figure mean 1,271 Canva employees were laid off? No. The company said the restructuring affects 1,271 people, or 22% of staff, and did not specify how many of those roles will be eliminated.
